Eat Expired Food, Be Green: Real World Green

I watched and listened to this podcast. It talked about expired food. The dates printed on food which says best before or expires on, doesn't exactly mean that we can't eat the food after them. In fact, people waste 1400 calories of food every day by throwing out expired food and others. Also, according to a research, 40% of the food produced is wasted. The speaker insists we eat some expired food and be green to the environment.

  1. Apparently, convenience stores in Japan put dates of expiration on foods that is very short because they have such a strong fear of food poisoning. Lots of food gets wasted that way. Fortunately, there are organizations like Second Harvest Japan that collects some of that food for redistribution. We'll hear from a representative of that NGO on 12/13.
